A load cell is a device that’s used to calculate force or weight in a number of different applications. It can be used to measure bending compression, tension, or other forces. It serves as a transducer that converts force into an electrical signal.

Today, we are going to introduce compression load cell which is mostly used in industry area.

What is compression load cell?

A compression load cell is a block that’s designed to measure compression by holding a load at one point. Unlike tension load cells, which measure pulling force, compression load cells measure a pushing force along a single axis. They are typically placed beneath the object that requires measuring.

The compression load cells are highly accurate, which is useful in industries where products are sold by weight. Many compression load cells are single point, which are extremely versatile and are able to measure off-centre loads, which is helpful for ensuring accuracy. Compression load cells also offer long-term stability, and this stability and accuracy can be further ensured with regular load cell calibration services.

The type of compression load cell?

1. S type load cell

S type load cell is also called S beam load cell, Z beam load cell, Z type load cell. S type load cell can be used for both of tension and compression. The thread on each side is the mounting way. Take 5t version for example, if S type load cell will be used for tension, the thread normally is bigger than compression application. Because we must ensure that the thread is hard enough to bear tension load.

2. Pancake type load cell

Pancake type load cell is also called Spoke type load cell and lowprofile load cell. The strain gauge is chosen as beam type. The load cell looks like a pancake, so we call it pancake type load cell. In some application, pancake type can be also used for tension, as long as there is thread around center hole.

3. Column type load cell

Column type load cell looks like a column. The dimension is relatively smaller than other types. So we can say it is compact load cell. Column is usually used for big capacity.

4. Beam type load cell

There are shear beam load cells and double ended beam load cells. They are all utilized for compression application.
